15 Unhappy JEE Students File Petition against CBSE

15 IIT JEE (Main) aspirants seem to be unhappy with their results. Recently, after the results were announced on 7th of May, many students claimed that they found mistakes in their score cards.

Moreover, they also raised complaints that the released JEE Main (IIT Joint Entrance exam) scores are not matching with the scores what they had predicted to be.

As a result, 15 students have come forward to file a petition against CBSE over the mistakes in their results. They have moved to the Delhi High Court against CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) which is responsible for conducting the JEE Main Examination.

The petition says "The respondents provided no mechanism to redress the grievances of petitioners who have secured a much higher score according to the solutions of prominent coaching institutions, but will be deprived of sitting in the JEE (Advanced) Exam 2013 being conducted by the CBSE as well as getting admission in any reputed engineering college, only because of institutional arrogance of respondents who have chosen to either not respond to the pleas of mercy or replied in an arbitrary and mechanical manner with patent absence of application of mind."

Students of JEE Main 2013 had recently mentioned that the board is not providing the answer keys to question sheets. As a result, the supreme court had ordered CBSE to provide the so called answer keys as soon as possible.

Following the order the CBS has hereby decided to charge a fee of Rs.500/- for each candidate to get the answer keys, photo copy of OMR sheet and Calculation sheet. According to the notification The candidates may apply for the same along with the requisite fee on or before June 15th, 2013.

The students, who have come together, will be represented by senior advocate Chetan Sharma. However, around 10 other students have planned to file interventions in the Delhi HC and ask that the admission process be stayed till the result calculation issue is solved.

JEE Main 2013 Cut Off Marks are Decided Based on Class 12 Result

Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh intermediate results are declared today. But for the students who appeared for JEE-Mains, the tension continues. After JEE-Mains exam results are announced, 40% weightage is given to intermediate marks and ranks will be announced. Sixty percent weightage is given for JEE-Mains exam marks.

Syllabus for Intermediate is not common for all the states. CBSE which conducts JEE-Mains has not revealed any normalization formula. And so 40$ weightage for Intermediate second year marks cannot be given. Until a normalization formula is revealed by CBSE, the tension continues for the candidates who appeared for JEE-Mains.

For getting admission into IITs a students must get a rank in JEE-Advanced exam. candidates who secure first 1,50,000 ranks are eligible to appear for JEE-Advanced exam.. IIT seats are allotted for candidates based on the national ranks they secure in advanced exam category wise. These candidates should also be in the top 20 percentile in the 12th class exams conducted by intermediate boards of various states.

CBSE analyzed the cut off data of student in top 20 percentile based on the Intermediate 2011 results. As per this analysis, cut off in top 20 percentile in Andhra Pradesh is 87.20 percent. All the student who secured 87.20 % in Intermediate is in top-20 percentile. In many states, student who secured 50-60% marks are in top-20 percentile. In Andhra Pradesh, the number of Intermediate students is big and the competition is also more. Thus the cut off is more in Andhra Pradesh.

For example if 4 lakh people appear for Inter second year exam (MPC), and they get 520 marks out of 530 marks in, this mark will be 100 percentile. Twenty percent of 4 lakh students are eighty thousand and students who score below 520 marks will be in the top 20 percentile. The cut off marks in such situation will be 94.33 for the top 20 percentile. This means if the candidate secures rank below 1,50,000 in JEE-Main, getting 94.33 percent in intermediate will be compulsory.

This is only an example. Intermediate board does not calculate the top-20 percentile cut off or the weightage for JEE-Mains. AP Intermediate board will send the results CD to JEE-Mains to calculate the weightage and top 20 percentile. Later CBSE will announce the weightage and percentile cut off.
